Summary of Worcestershire 2012 Opportunities and Targets and Regional Structures

 

Worcestershire’s Olympic 2012 sub-regional plan was refreshed and re-launched in February 2009. The plan will run up to 2012 and will focus on the key areas of:

  • Business

  • Physical Activity/Health

  • Culture

  • Marketing and Promotion

The strength of the plan lies in the connectivity between these themes which reinforce and support one another

  • Support for existing or new events using the inspiration of the LOCOG endorsed Raising our Game brand and promotional programme
  • Raising Our Game Ambassadors
  • Using the inspiration of the Olympics as a vehicle to achieve existing objectives (groups taking ownership of opportunities)

 

2009/2010 Targets

  • Build the Raising Our Game (ROG) brand
  • Build the Raising Our Game Olympic Ambassador Group
  • Create a Worcestershire 2012 Website
  • Run a Community Olympian Games Pilot
  • Create a physical activity project
  • Create a workplace physical activity project
  • Support People Dancing bid
  • Promote opportunities to enhance cultural and sport/physical activity events/festivals/workplace well-being initiatives with the inspiration of the Olympics
  • Work with schools to develop Get Set activities
  • Organise business awareness raising seminars and tender training workshops

 

  • West Midlands Leadership Group
  • The West Midlands Leadership Group for the London 2012 Games brings together representatives from each of the region’s six sub regions and from business, sport, culture, tourism, education and skills as well as the Youth Parliament, disability interests and Government agencies. More recently, the Leadership Group, chaired by David Moorcroft, has become the consortium officially recognised by London 2012’s Nations and Regions Group, to lead in the delivery of the benefits of the Games to the West Midlands region.

  • Advantage West Midlands
  • Advantage West Midlands is responsible for coordination of Olympic activity for the West Midlands, Heart of England region and is the host organisation for the West Midlands Leadership Group for London 2012. Advantage West Midlands is the Regional Development Agency (RDA) for the West Midlands region – one of nine RDAs in England established to transform English regions through sustainable economic development.
  • Advantage West Midlands takes the lead role in setting the strategy and focus for regional economic improvement; building the partnerships needed to achieve the region’s vision; and ensuring that public money is targeted to those activities and projects best placed to make a real difference.
