Inspiration 2012

The 2012 programme aims to encourage individuals who are currently inactive, unemployed or socially excluded to gain new skills, engage in their communities, raise their aspirations and move nearer to the job market.

The programme has three strands

Stand 1: Personal Best (Awarded the Inspire Mark)

  • The volunteering programme known as ‘Personal Best’ (the Pre-Volunteer Programme) provides an accredited level 1 Events Volunteering Training Programme.  The successful completion of this programme will enable the individual to be added to the volunteer database for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Games
  • Sport Structures – delivering Strand 1 (Personal Best) only. Contact Simon Kirkland (0845 450 9433, simon@sportstructures.com
  • Worcestershire target: 8

Strand2: Sports Coaching / Leadership

  • The coaching programme will offer a level 1 qualification or equivalent in Sports Coaching or Sports Leadership.  There will be an opportunity for those entering employment to progress to a Level 2 via Train to Gain or an Apprenticeship as applicable.
  • Worcestershire target: 13

Strand 3: Healthy Lifestyle

  • The term physical activity is often used as a ‘catch all’ term for any body movement not defined by Sport and Fitness.  It is now generally used to identify non-sport / fitness based modes of activity.  This would include forms of walking, cycling (led by walking/cycling leaders) as well as other activities that are often not related to health maintenance or improvement e.g. ‘Extend’, Green Gym and Tai Chi which often support physical mental and social health.
  • This programme would look to tackle social exclusion through encouragement of a healthy lifestyle within the community, by offering a package of short courses relating to exercise, movement and nutrition.
  • West Mercia Probation Service – delivering Strand 2 (Sports Coaching & Leadership) and Strand 3 (Healthy Living). Contact Tina Ashmore (01562 748375, Tina.Ashmore@west-mercia.probation.gsi.gov.uk)
  • Worcestershire target: 10
