ROGSummary

  • Education and Skills is a Sub Group to the regional 2012 Advisory Group and as part of this have been working on a regional strategy. The LSC are fully committed to linking with CompeteFor companies (See Business section) and are working with Business Link to ensure that companies receive the assistance required

ROGPersonal Best

  • Funding runs from December 2008 to December 2010.
  • Personal Best is based on the successful programme implemented for the Manchester Commonwealth Games
  • Personal Best uses 2012 Olympic inspired activities and programmes to encourage workless (6 months +) and socially excluded individuals to gain new skills, engage in their communities, raise their aspirations and move them nearer the job market.
  • Typical targets of the Personal Best programme (age group 19+):
    •        Participants back to work
    •        Participants engaged in job search or training
    •        Participants engaged in volunteering activities
    •        Participants engaged in training NVQ Level 1
    •        Participants involved in sports coaching
    •        Participants engaged in healthy lifestyle activities
  • Legacy – widening out Personal Best in the community (Health Authority to fund research)
  • The contract for the 2012 programme has been awarded and clarification is ongoing.  Once this is complete the LSC will notify partners of the successful provider and further details regarding the provision.
  • The programme has three strands
  1. The volunteering programme known as ‘Personal Best’ (the Pre-Volunteer Programme) provides an accredited level 1 Events Volunteering Training Programme.  The successful completion of this programme will enable the individual to be added to the volunteer database for the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics Games
  2. Sports Coaching / Leadership - the coaching programme will offer a level 1 qualification or equivalent in Sports Coaching or Sports Leadership.  There will be an opportunity for those entering employment to progress to a Level 2 via Train to Gain or an Apprenticeship as applicable.
  3. Healthy Lifestyle - This programme would look to tackle social exclusion through encouragement of a healthy lifestyle within the community, by offering a package of short courses relating to exercise, movement and nutrition

 

ROGTrain to Gain

  • Train to Gain is the national skills service that supports employers of all sizes and in all sectors to improve the skills of their employees as a route to improving business performance. 
  • Train to Gain will support every business that wins a 2012 contract and every business in its supply chain.  Every business will be contacted by Train to Gain and offered an assessment of their skills needs, potentially benefiting thousands of UK businesses and hundreds of thousands of employees

ROGApprenticeships

  • Apprenticeships are work-based training programmes designed for employers current and future employees aged between 16 and 65 at the start of an Apprenticeship.
  • Focus on Company's that have registered on CompeteFor

ROGIntegrated Employment & Skills

  • The LSC's Economic Development team's main responsibility is to support the integration of skills and employment.
  • The service offers recruitment tailored to employer needs, delivered by Jobcentre Plus
  • Depending on an employer's commitment to supporting people back into work, this can include volunteers, and their business needs.
