Olympic inspiration and funding for local organisations

Local sports clubs, gyms and leisure centres are being urged to get inspired by the 2012 Olympics by using a brand new physical activity toolkit and applying for a grant to get the ball rolling.

The 'Inspired?' guide to running Olympic and Paralympic Games-themed events and sports programmes has been produced by the Worcestershire Partnership, which is also offering grants of up to £500 to help fund suitable events.

Any organisation that organises physical activities can get involved by checking out the toolkit online or requesting a printed version. Schools, play providers and employers are also being encouraged to embrace the Olympic values by using the 'Inspired?' toolkit.Inspired? Toolkit

The toolkit includes examples of initiatives from all around the country and handy top tips for organising local versions. Grants of between £200 and £500 to support 'Inspired?' events can be applied for from September 2010.

Peter Turvey, Worcestershire Olympics Coordinator 21012 Games for the Worcestershire Partnership, said: "This toolkit and grants scheme will help to create a countywide '2012 festival', inspiring local people from all backgrounds and locations to celebrate the Olympic and Paralympic Games through mass participation in sport and physical activity.

"The toolkit and grants seek to engage a broad spectrum of organisations contributing to the sporting, recreation and physical activity agendas to ensure the Olympic and Paralympic message is coordinated across Worcestershire. A special focus is placed on using the inspiration of this once in a lifetime opportunity to engage with people who aren't undertaking recommended levels of physical activity, helping to change attitudes and motivate people towards a more active lifestyle.

"The Olympic values of friendship, respect and excellence, along with the Paralympic values of determination, courage, inspiration and equality, underpin the toolkit, so it's not just limited to sport but encompasses the broader cultural opportunities. People of all ages can be inspired to make the most of their own abilities and be the best that they can be in whatever direction they're inspired by."
