Overview

The quality of parks and open spaces are essential to the way that local communities feel about where they live.  High quality open spaces also have a massive impact on local social and economic regeneration.  The Green Flag Award is the national quality award for parks and open spaces. It is administered by the civic trust and has the backing of DCLG

Performance

There are currently 11 parks or open spaces in Worcestershire with Green Flag awards. This is an increase on 2008, in which 8 Green Flags were recorded, and is in line with the target set in last year's State of the Environment Report.

In local terms the breakdown of the green flag awards in the county is as follows:

Geographical Context

The West Midlands region has 42 current Green Flag award-winning parks and open spaces. Worcestershire's 11 registered sites comprise a healthy 26% of this total, and show that the county is well represented in terms of the quality of parks and open spaces on offer.

Actions

Whilst the number of green flags will continue for the next few years there will always be a maximum number of possible sites in Worcestershire and so in reality the maximum number of green flags possible is only 3 / 4 per authority.
