A Brief Introduction to Worcestershire Partnership Environment
Group (WPEG)
What is WPEG?
The Worcestershire Partnership Environment Group (WPEG) acts as
Worcestershire's environmental voice in the county and the region.
Membership of the WPEG is drawn from a broad range of knowledge and
experience in the environmental field. It can include
representatives from the public, private and voluntary sectors.
What does WPEG do?
WPEG aims to advance the environmental threads of the
Sustainable Community Strategy and to act as the primary advisor to
the Worcestershire Partnership on all environmental matters.
How does WPEG operate?
There are a number of 'task groups' within WPEG, each focussing
on different issues that have an influence on Worcestershire's
environment:
- Climate Change Strategy (and LAA outcome B2);
- Streetscene and Open Spaces (and LAA outcome B1);
- Landscape/Biodiversity (and LAA outcome B4);
- Historic Built Environment;
- Sustainable Community Strategy; and
- Material Resources and Waste (and LAA outcome B3).
Some of these task groups operate through face-to-face meetings,
others mainly through email contact, according to their needs.
A further task group monitors the State of the Environment, and
produces an annual report to monitor a series of indicators. These
indicators are drawn from each of the other task groups. For
example, one of the indicators for the Material Resources and Waste
theme relates to the amount of controlled waste generated in the
County.
WPEG meetings provide an opportunity to discuss and resolve key
issues, introduce new members, items and ideas, and provide a basis
for preparing WPEG's official responses to consultations.
When does WPEG meet?
Full meetings of WPEG occur four times per year. Venues are
decided based on suitability/availability of members' facilities,
and all members are expected to host meetings and provide
refreshments and a light lunch.
What is expected of WPEG members?
WPEG members are expected to actively contribute to WPEG's aims
through the sharing of their expertise. Members may be required to
draft briefing notes and formal reports for the group as and when
appropriate. Members are required to attend all relevant meetings
and to have read all relevant supporting material in advance of
these meetings.
