There are plenty of
opportunities to take part in sport and exercise in Worcestershire.
This section gives some of the options. If you have a question
which is not answered here, you can use the links below to find out
more about sport in your area:
Swimming
There are many swimming pools in Worcestershire offering general
swimming for the public along with special sessions at set times.
Special sessions include ladies only swimming, parent and toddler
classes, lessons and adult lane swimming. Find a pool
in your
area.
Fishing
Worcestershire's beautiful rivers offer a wealth of game and
coarse fishing in lovely surroundings, and there are many places to
fish with a day permit. Tackle shops are probably the best source
of information as to what is available.
It is important to remember that any angler aged 12 years or
over fishing for salmon, trout, freshwater fish or eels in
Worcestershire must have an Environment Agency rod licence*. If you
are caught fishing without a licence, you can be prosecuted and may
be fined up to £2,500. Licences can be obtained
on-line, by calling 0870 1662 662, or from any Post Office.
Anyone fishing must also have the permission of the landowner or
person in charge of the waters they wish to fish.
There are many rules (called byelaws) for anglers, which are
mostly designed to maintain fish stocks. The byelaws apply to all
types of fisheries - whether they are owned by angling clubs,
syndicates, local authorities, the Environment Agency or by private
individuals. Full details are available from the
Environment Agency website.
