Economy & Transport Theme Group

Economic success that is shared by all

The Economy and Transport theme group aims to develop economic and transport strategies for Worcestershire, within the framework of the Community Strategy.  It has a key role in ensuring links between regional strategies such as the Regional Economic Strategy and local plans.  It develops an annual work plan and monitors that plan to ensure success.

The group's work programme includes :-

• Ensuring Worcestershire’s embracing of the Central Technology Belt - through actions such as the science park development in Malvern, with its connections to QinetiQ and other hi-tech companies
• Supporting key business areas - the Regional Development Agency, Advantage West Midlands, have identified ten business “clusters” (e.g. food and drink) which are important to the region. More information on these can be found on their website
• Working on a Framework for Rural Action
• Developing an Economic Strategy for Worcestershire
• Finalising the Creative Industries Strategy and delivering the Tourism Strategy for the County

The latter two points demonstrate the clear links between theme groups, as both creative industries and tourism are key concerns for the Culture theme group as well.
