State of the Environment

This State of the Environment (SoE) report provides new information and begins the process of monitoring changes to the baseline data we established in 2004. We would welcome your comments on how you feel about the environmental changes, positive and negative, that are occurring in Worcestershire as well as thoughts on the future you would like to see for Worcestershire's environment. The members of the Worcestershire Partnership Environment Group (WPEG)have prepared this report. What is the Worcestershire State of the Environment Report

WPEG has developed a process to annually report on a monitor the condition of the Worcestershire environment. At the end of each year, a State of the Environment Report is prepared to publicise the findings. The information collected aims to give a key indication of the State of the Environment in Worcestershire. The report will be reviewed every 3 years with annual data collection.

What can the State of the Environment Report do?

The report has many functions. Initially the report will:

• offer a central report of collective responsibility that offers shared information on the state of the environment
• provide accessible and scientifically sound information to inform the preparation of policy
• increase public understanding of environmental issues in the County
• provide early warning of potential problems
• identify key pressures influencing the environment of Worcestershire
• determine the condition of the environment in response to these pressures

In future years, the report will extend to:

• propose targets and make recommendations for outcomes that are needed to respond to the pressures and trends being observed, including identification of data gaps and future areas of research.
