Waste management in the UK is entering a time of significant change due to stringent Government targets and new European Legislation. In Worcestershire, waste management is undertaken by a number of organisations. The Environment Agency has statutory responsibilities relating to waste regulations and licensing. The District Councils are responsible for collecting waste from households, street cleaning, fly-tipping, abandoned vehicles, and in some cases commercial waste. The County Council then has the responsibility for the disposal of the waste and providing household waste sites. Therefore it is important to keep track of both the amount of waste produced and the methods used to manage it, as described by the following three indicators.
