Raising Our Game

How Worcestershire can realise the benefits from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Worcestershire has the potential to benefit from the range of opportunities that will arise from the London 2012 Games. The London Games are not just about medals – the aim is to create a sustainable legacy, not just for the capital city but for the UK (including  Worcestershire) too.

  • Tourism  - The Olympic Games will showcase our people, places, attractions and cultures to the world like never before. With a global television audience of over 4 billion people it provides a great platform to reach into new markets.
  • Business  - Businesses from all sectors including construction, manufacturing, catering, merchandise, retail, business and financial services, media and creative industries will be needed from across the UK.
  • Sport/Physical Activity  - The Games has the potential to inspire our most promising young athletes and to encourage a more active population.
  • Culture  - The Cultural Olympiad (a UK-wide cultural festival) begins when London becomes the host city at the closing ceremony of the Beijing Games in 2008. It is a four-year UK-wide Cultural Festival
  • Volunteers  - It is anticipated that up to 70,000 volunteers will be needed during the Games, in more than 3500 different roles.

This information aims to give you an overview of what is happening in the county to make sure we make the most of this unique opportunity.
